I made the 4 hour drive to the Alvord Desert with the specific intention of finding some cracked clay tiles to use as foreground for an image. When I arrived, I drove around the entire playa (it's about 12 miles long and 7 miles wide) looking for the most premium clay tiles. I determined these to be the best and they were only found in an area the size of a couple of acres. At sunrise I took this image of Steens Mountain with the tiles as foreground.
